Train Your Dog to Not Scare Birds Away From Your Garden
Dog Training
A dog is a good companion at home. It can relieve your stress and take away your worries after a hard day’s work especially when you have a breed that loves to be with people. But training is important to make any dog behave well in your home.
Having a pet does not end in buying one. It takes patience and attention to train your dog properly so he does not hurt your family and cause damage to your personal belongings.
And training should not only be limited to what your pet needs to do indoors but also how to behave outside the house. This is particularly important if you have a backyard garden and you want to attract birds there.
Birds are normally scared of dogs so find time to teach your pet not to chase or bark at birds in your backyard. Be consistent when training your dog so he or she will understand what you’re trying to communicate. When pets see that you are firm with your words and actions, they will eventually learn to act the way you want them in certain situations.
Remember to reward your dog during your training sessions. It is a must if you want the animal to follow your instructions.
When it comes to birds, communicate in a simple and straightforward manner. You don’t have to raise your voice but just talk in a calm but firm way. You can simply say “no,” “sit” or “stay” to your dog when it tries to chase birds and then reward him with a treat when he follows you. In fact, you can introduce your canine to the birds and do this several times so your pet gets used to them. Call out your dog’s name and then show the birds. Communicate what you want to say if you wish as if you’re just conversing with a human.
Another way is let your dog watch you bird feeding or put food on the bird feeder or arranging a bird house. Again, you need to watch over your pet’s behavior first and give the right command to stay put where he or she is while you’re doing something for the birds. When the canine sees you doing this regularly, for sure he will learn to behave in the presence of birds.
If at first your beloved pet does not follow what you say, you need to punish him. Do understand that punishment does not have to be harsh or painful. It’s all about reducing the possibility of your dog repeating an unpleasant act in the future.
Dog training need not be very complicated although it requires much patience on the part of the pet owner. The Golden Retriever, for instance, is one of the best trained dogs you can have. It’s very intelligent and is capable of doing a lot of tasks that humans do.
An important note to keep in mind is that you are the leader in the house. And you should show to your dog this so that he or she will follow your house rules.
